Team BW takes to the road & water for charity!
Members of the Barcan Woodward team have taken part in a number of fundraising events during September, including the Bristol half marathon and the annual dragon boat racing.
We’ve now raised more than £1,200 during 2013 for two local charities – One25, who help and support street sex-working women, and the Julian Trust, a charitable organisation that operates the Bristol night shelter.
Fiona Dabell, James Parsonage, Mark Scanlon and Gareth Hughes all successfully completed the Bristol half marathon challenge on Sept 15th.
Whilst on Sunday 22nd September, our enthusiastic team also participated in the annual dragon boat racing on Bristol docks.
Unlike last year’s event which was accompanied by torrential rain and freezing temperatures, the conditions were ideal on the day. Our 16 strong crew and drummer won two of their three races and improved their performance in each race, shaving time of each of their previous heats.
After the event, Andrew Dobie, Partner and dragon boat rower, said:
“Many thanks and praise for the tremendous effort put in by all members of our crew. It was a hard slog but thoroughly good fun and we’ve raised valuable funds for our charities. Here’s to doing it all again next year!”
Mark Scanlon, solicitor and half marathon runner, also commented:
“I’ve never run a half marathon and was nervous before, but it’s a unique experience. The atmosphere is brilliant and the crowd really kept me going when it got tough. Nonetheless I was pleased to have finished it and the whole team should feel really proud of their times – it’s a real achievement.”
If you’d like to support the efforts of the Barcan Woodward team, you can pledge a donation via our Just Giving site, available here. The site will remain open until the end of the year.
