Emily Johnstone
Emily joined Barcan and Kirby in February 2023 as an Associate in our Medical Negligence department and was promoted to Senior Associate in April 2025. She has specialised in representing individuals in medical negligence claims for over six years.
Emily has a mixed caseload, with experience of brain injury, delayed cancer diagnosis, sepsis, gynaecological injuries, and orthopaedic/general surgery. She has also represented families whose loved ones have died due to medical negligence, including acting for families in stillbirth cases.
Career highlights include:
- Assisting with multi-million-pound birth brain injury cases and helping secure compensation which will ensure the client is looked after for the rest of their life.
- Supporting a family through a high-profile inquest and claim following the tragic death of their mother, who was a nurse.
- Negotiating substantial settlements to help women rebuild their lives after suffering avoidable urological or anorectal injuries during childbirth.
