Emily Johnstone

Emily is an Associate in our Medical Negligence team. She joined Barcan and Kirby in 2023 and was promoted to Senior Associate in 2025. She has specialised in representing individuals in medical negligence claims since 2018.

Emily has a mixed caseload, with experience of brain injury, delayed cancer diagnosis, sepsis, gynaecological injuries, and orthopaedic/general surgery. She has also represented families whose loved ones have died due to medical negligence, including acting for families in stillbirth cases. 

Career highlights: 

  • Assisting with multi-million-pound birth brain injury cases and helping secure compensation which will ensure the client is looked after for the rest of their life
  • Supporting a family through a high-profile inquest and claim following the tragic death of their mother, who was a nurse
  • Negotiating substantial settlements to help women rebuild their lives after suffering avoidable urological or anorectal injuries during childbirth
