Trainee Development Workshops

In the two years leading to qualification, a trainee’s role shifts from assisting with legal tasks to managing client relationships and contributing directly to the firm’s financial performance. This is a big shift, and one that requires a dual skillset: delivering high-quality legal advice while understanding the commercial mechanics of the firm and its clients.

Barcan and Kirby’s Trainee Development Workshops are designed to prepare those who will soon qualify, giving them the tools and confidence they will need to thrive once they’re fully qualified Solicitors.

What do the Trainee Development Workshops include?

This programme comprises two annual workshops delivered remotely.

  • In year one, the focus is on economics, financial and time management.
  • Year two focuses on core practical skills such as carrying out and presenting research, and legal drafting. It also covers financial foundations such as time capturing and accurate unit tracking.

Both workshops look in detail at budgeting, pricing transparency, managing non-paying clients, recognising risks and managing client expectations.

In addition, attendees will learn about business development and client relationship management.

Who are the Trainee Development Workshops for?

This programme is for apprentices and self-funding Paralegals who have two years or less remaining before they qualify.
