Barcan and Kirby launches digital onboarding tool, Legl
Barcan and Kirby has invested in Legl’s online tool to streamline our onboarding process and offer an enhanced client experience.
The launch of Legl supports our ongoing commitment to improving our service to clients and our strategic focus on adopting new technology and AI. In fact, the implementation of Legl was a key project undertaken by our Technology and AI Committee, with members carrying out a series of tests and internal soft-launches to ensure a smooth rollout to clients.
What is Legl?
Legl is a cloud-based platform that helps law firms streamline the client onboarding process and lifecycle of a matter. This software aims to improve efficiency, create a better client experience and save both you and our teams time.
Legl offers clients:
- Identity and biometric ID verification
- Source of funds checks and verification
- Digital forms for different stages of your matter
- A way to sign documents and agreements electronically
- Secure storage for documents
I’m not tech-savvy – is there an alternative to Legl?
We help clients across a whole range of matters, from conveyancing and family law to corporate deals and complex dispute resolution. We therefore appreciate that not all clients can or want to use digital platforms, such as Legl, and prefer or require a more ‘traditional’ way of working with us.
Legl allows us to run in-person due diligence (e.g. ID and source of funds checks) where clients are unable to provide documents electronically. This still uses the Legl platform at our end, but you will liaise with us over the telephone, in-person or via email.
What are the benefits of Legl for clients?
1. Convenience
Legl offers clients a convenient way to sign documents and agreements, which means we can get started on your matter without delay.
2. Online ID checks
A key benefit for clients is that Legl undertakes the ID verification process securely, without the need (or risk) to send us confidential ID documents, such as passports and driving licences.
3. Digital signatures
With Legl, you can sign initial documents, such as our Letter of Engagement, online and at the same time. They will then be safely stored on a portal for us to access.
4. Risk protection
Legl’s ability to collect ID and source of funds information helps to protect you and our firm from the risk of fraud and financial crime. This also helps us to comply with anti-money laundering (AML) regulations.
How will Legl impact Barcan and Kirby’s clients?
When you instruct Barcan and Kirby, you will receive a secure link via email from Legl on our behalf. This link will take you to a secure site where you can provide the ID and signatures required.
You can use Legl on your smartphone, tablet or laptop, and the platform will have our branding, so you can easily recognise that it’s come from us.
Does Legl keep my personal information safe?
Yes. All information submitted through the Legl platform is encrypted and stored in a secure data centre. Click here to read more about how Legl protects your data.
