Clinical Negligence Paralegal – Bristol City Centre

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Paralegal to join our award-winning Clinical Negligence team in Bristol.

You will have the opportunity to work on a complex caseload with exposure to high-profile claims of maximum severity in a well-resourced and well-supported environment.

The role

As a Paralegal, you will provide cost-effective fee earning and administrative support to the Clinical Negligence team. You may also be asked to assist other departments.

Fee-earning duties, under supervision, will include:

  • Taking details of new enquiries and circulating these to the team.
  • Providing estimates for new enquiries.
  • Interviewing clients, taking instructions and keeping detailed file notes.
  • Dealing with routine enquiries, communications and requests for updates from clients, other lawyers and professional advisers, and taking a lead role by being the first point of contact on certain files.
  • Assisting in the due diligence process of cases.
  • Drafting legal documentation.
  • Assisting fee earners with research.
  • Advising on cases where required in a timely manner.
  • Comply with the Solicitors Accounts Rules and the Rules of the Professional Conduct of Solicitors.
  • Assisting with schedules of financial loss.
  • Assisting with work relating to inquests including attendance at hearings.
  • Drafting applications to the court and other court documents for approval.
  • Tracing and interviewing witnesses, and drafting statements.
  • Obtaining medical records and other records in a timely fashion.
  • Reviewing medical records.
  • Attending court to issue claim forms and other legal documents, and to assist at trial.
  • Accurately recording time and meeting monthly time targets.
  • Preparing applications for funding (both ATE and Legal Aid).

Administration work may include:

  •  Preparation of trial bundles and management of documents, including the delivery and collection of these to the court and other parties.
  • Preparing bundles for experts including collation of medical records.
  • Drafting of meeting agendas and taking minutes.

You will also be encouraged to get involved with marketing and business development activities on behalf of the department and the firm.

The ideal candidate

Our ideal candidate will:

  • Be a Law graduate or equivalent
  • Have completed the LPC or will be working towards this with the advanced course in Clinical Negligence.
  • Have a flexible approach to assist with a varied caseload.
  • Be IT literate and be confident using and adapting to new systems and processes.

Experience of clinical negligence (and/or personal injury) litigation would be beneficial but not essential.
Knowledge and experience of social media and networking will be beneficial

Location and working hours

  • Full-time (office hours are 9am – 5.15pm, Monday to Friday) but we will consider part-time applicants
  • The role is based at our Prince House office in Bristol city centre, but with the option to apply for hybrid working upon successful completion of your probation.
