Firm’s charity and community work recognised by award

We’re pleased to announce that Barcan Woodward has won the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Firm of the Year award at this year’s Bristol Law Society’s annual awards dinner.

We were also shortlisted for the President’s Outstanding Contribution award (Richard Barcan), Solicitor of the Year (Richard Harries) and Legal Aid Firm of the Year.

Presented to the firm who has shown commitment to supporting their local community, the Corporate Social Responsibility award recognises our work with the Bedminster Town Team, our community law shop and our fundraising activity.

Over the last 12 months, we’ve provided pro bono advice and support to the Bedminster Town team on their Business Improvement District (BID) proposal. We’re now providing the same service to the Gloucester Road Traders Association in support of their forthcoming BID application.

In addition our staff members have taken part in a range of activities, including running the Bristol half marathon and walking barefooted across hot coals to raise vital funds for two Bristol-based charities, One25 and the Julian Trust.

Chris Miller, Managing Partner, said of the award:

“This is a really important award for us as it recognises the work we do outside of the firm. Our CSR programme is an integral part of our company culture and we take an enormous amount of pride in being able to use our expertise in support of our local community.

Winning this award for corporate and social responsibility is testament to the hard work and dedication of every member of our staff – whether they’ve run a marathon, rowed in a dragon boat or baked a cake – and it’s great to see our efforts recognised in this way.

We’re absolutely thrilled to be the recipient of this award!”
