A socially distanced Will signing

  • Posted

Our clients, Mr and Mrs J, had arranged a home visit to discuss their Wills prior to the announcement of lockdown and social distancing guidelines as a result of Covid-19. Both were more comfortable meeting Anna Molter at home for the Will signing due to mobility issues.

Before lockdown commenced, we contacted Mr and Mrs J to explain that the offices were closing and face-to-face meetings were no longer possible, and so a telephone appointment was arranged instead. Anna explained what would happen at the meeting and provided a questionnaire for the clients to consider beforehand. During the telephone appointment, Mr and Mrs J provided their instructions over speakerphone and Anna was then able to prepare terms and conditions.

Anna prepared both Wills with a special attestation as Mrs J is registered blind and so Anna was able to sign on her behalf. The couple approved the draft Wills, which they were sent via post and email, and we made arrangements to meet with the clients at home in order for Wills to be executed.

Anna and Alyssa Hill travelled to Mr and Mrs J’s home to execute the Wills. Both wore gloves and handmade face masks, remaining outside at all times, with Anna only putting her arm in the door to place the Will on a table for signing. Each party also used their own pen to limit any potential exposure to the virus. Anna brought the Wills back to our office to store and sent copies to Mr and Mrs J.
