Clinical Negligence Lawyer

We have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced lawyer to join our award-winning Clinical Negligence team, right in the heart of Bristol.

Our team is proud to stand alongside clients in some of the most difficult moments of their lives; helping them get answers about their care, highlight dangerous medical practices and help rebuild their lives.

In this role, you will run a complex caseload and assist senior team members on high-profile claims of maximum severity in a well-resourced and well-supported environment.

Why join our Clinical Negligence team?

  • We’re top-ranked by Chambers and Partners UK and the Legal 500
  • Many of our team members are Law Society Accredited and on the AvMA panel
  • We have a supportive, collaborative culture with strong mentoring and progression
  • You will have a clear path for personal and professional development

The role

You will handle your own varied caseload of pre-action and litigated medical negligence matters, delivering excellent client service.

Your work will be meaningful and challenging, and you will be fully supported by a skilled team.

We are looking for someone who can champion Barcan+Kirby’s values and support the firm’s objectives.

What your day will look like:

  • Managing and progressing a caseload from initial instruction through to resolution
  • Advising clients with empathy and clarity, always putting their needs first
  • Drafting legal documents including claims, court pleadings, and witness statements
  • Attending costs and case management conferences and other court hearings on behalf of clients (or instructing Counsel to do so)
  • Liaising with medical experts, Counsel, and third-party funders
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant protocols and funding arrangements (e.g. CFA, LEI, Legal Aid)
  • Maintaining clear, comprehensive file notes and case management records
  • Contributing to a supportive and learning-focused team environment

Our ideal candidate

  • Qualified lawyer or FCILEx, specialising in claimant clinical negligence
  • Strong organisational and communication skills
  • A client-focused, empathetic approach to sensitive and complex issues
  • Comfortable working independently and collaboratively within a busy team
  • A proactive attitude toward professional development and contributing to the wider team’s success
  • IT proficient and confident in using modern case management systems
  • Law Society or AvMA panel membership is a plus – or a willingness to work toward it
