Case study: £21,000 compensation for ‘dooring’ accident
Our client was knocked off her bicycle when she was cycling down the road and the defendant opened the driver’s door of his parked car into her path. The impact caused our client to collide with the door and bounce into a car travelling in the opposite direction, landing on her left elbow.
As a result of the accident, our client sustained a fracture to her elbow which required immediate surgery to insert wires, as well as a second surgery later down the line to remove the metalwork. Intensive physiotherapy was also required to aid her recovery from both the accident and the surgeries.
The defendant’s insurers admitted liability for the accident and, after medical evidence was obtained and negotiations began, an offer of £21,000 was accepted to settle the claim in full and final settlement.
