Claire Hurrell

Claire has specialised in medical negligence for over 14 years. She undertakes a broad range of medical negligence cases and has particular experience in cases arising from negligent obstetric care including those involving children who have suffered cerebral palsy and erb’s palsy following complications during labour, and cases where negligent obstetric care has resulted in maternal injuries.

Claire also specialises in acting for the families of those who have died as a result of medical negligence, including representation at inquests and claims arising from psychiatric injury for surviving family members who have experienced trauma second-hand.

Claire is a member of the Law Society’s Clinical Negligence Accreditation Scheme as well as the AvMA Specialist Clinical Negligence Panel.

Claire is ranked in Chambers and Partners UK 2024 and the Legal 500 for her expertise in clinical negligence; one testimonial states “Claire is very organised and good with complex cases. She’s very claimant-centred and she listens and takes on suggestions.”

She is recognised as a ‘Key Lawyer’ in Legal 500 UK 2023 and 2024. She won Bristol Law Society’s Lawyer of the Year in 2016.
